"I consider 2025 an unsuccessful year for Azerbaijani football." These words were said by Vidadi Rzayev in his statement to Sport24.az.
The veteran footballer spoke about the events in the country's football in the outgoing year 2025:
"Although "Qarabag's" results are excellent at the club level, the national team's results are terrible. In the European Cups, "Sabah" and "Araz-Nakhchivan" were able to pass one stage. This is not a comforting result. The abolition of the legionnaire limit was a fundamentally wrong decision."
He also spoke about his expectations from Azerbaijani football in 2026:
"The level of our championship is rising. "Sabah" was able to put an end to "Qarabag's" hegemony, which has been going on for years, this winter break. Still, it seems to me that "Qarabag" will be the champion. The processes in the club worry me. Marko Jankovic and the desire of several players to leave the team may negatively affect the team. "Kapaz", "Gabala" and "Karvan-Yevlakh" have many local players. It takes time for their level to rise. Clubs should not bring unnecessary legionnaires."
