"Neftchi" has started planning its squad for the next season. According to reliable information obtained by Sport24.az, one of the legionary footballers whose contract the "white-blacks" want to extend has already been determined.
We are talking about Nigerian midfielder Ifeanyi Metyu.
Head coach Yuri Vernidub has requested that the 29-year-old footballer continue with the team if he stays. The Ukrainian specialist consistently gives Metyu a chance in the starting lineup and is satisfied with his game discipline.
Metyu, who won the Africa Cup of Nations among players under 20, was transferred to "Neftchi" in September 2025. At that time, a 1+1 year contract was signed between the parties.
It seems that the extension clause in the contract will be activated, and Metyu will wear the capital's team's jersey in the 2026/2027 season as well.
It should be noted that this midfielder has been in the starting lineup in all matches held after Vernidub's appointment.
