The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has made a number of changes to the Laws of the Game, including extending the powers of VAR.
According to İdman.Biz, citing the BBC, video assistant referees will be able to intervene in situations involving second yellow cards.
VAR officials will also be able to review incorrect yellow or red cards if the on-field referee has confused players. The changes will take effect from the 2026/2027 season and will be implemented at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
FIFA has defended the expansion of VAR's powers, while representatives of some leagues have stated that measures that could increase the number of interruptions in the game are unacceptable.
