The VAR referee will be penalized for the incident involving the second goal scored in "Girona's" 2-1 victory over "Barcelona".
In the 86th minute of the 24th round of La Liga, before Fran Beltran's goal, "Girona" midfielder Claudio Echeverri stepped on the foot of "Barcelona" defender Jules Kounde while passing the ball. The French footballer fell, after which Echeverri passed the ball to Joel Roque, who then provided an assist to Beltran.
The incident was reviewed by the VAR referees, but referee Cesar Soto Grado was not called to the monitor. The goal was recorded, which ultimately proved to be "Girona's" winning goal.
According to the "As" newspaper, the La Liga Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) assessed Echeverri's action as a foul. Consequently, VAR should have intervened and Beltran's goal should have been disallowed. The referee David Galvez Rascon, who was in charge of VAR in this match, has been suspended from his duties until further notice.
