The military conflict between the US and Venezuela may affect the participation of Venezuelan clubs in the 2026 CONMEBOL tournaments. This mainly creates a problem for holding their home games. Sport24.az reports, citing local media, that the increasing instability in the country is already raising questions about the calendar and logistics of the Libertadores Cup.
Four clubs will represent Venezuela in the next season of the Libertadores Cup. "Carabobo" and "Deportivo Tachira" will start the tournament from the preliminary stages. "Deportivo Tachira" will face the Bolivian team "Strongest" in the preliminary qualifying round, and the return match will be held in Venezuela on February 9.
"Deportes La Guaira" and "Universidad Central" have directly qualified for the group stage, which is scheduled to begin in April. The main concerns are related to security, which worries the organizers.
It is noted that if the conflict intensifies, Venezuelan clubs may have to hold their home games outside the country. A more severe scenario is the exclusion of clubs from international competitions due to travel restrictions. There is currently no official decision on this matter.
