Ukraine defeated Paraguay in the third round of the group stage of the World Championship among youth teams under 20.
Idman.biz reports that the match held in Santiago, the capital of Chile, ended with a score of 2:1.
Goals for the Ukrainian team were scored by Maksym Derkach (46th minute) and Matvey Ponomarenko (80). Cesar Minyo (69) scored for Paraguay.
The Ukrainian national team, coached by Dmytro Mykhailenko, scored seven points and advanced to the 1/8 finals of the World Championship from the first place in Group B. Paraguay qualified for the playoffs from the second place with four points.
South Korea and Panama were also in the group. South Korea (4 points) took third place and may qualify for the playoffs according to its rating, while Panama (1) finished fourth and left the tournament.
In the 1/8 finals of the World Championship among players under 20, Ukraine will face the team that takes third place in Group A, C or D. The match will start on October 8 at 03:00 Baku time.
The last U20 World Championship was held in 2023, when Uruguay defeated Italy 1:0 in the final.
