UEFA has rejected Benfica's complaint against Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.
Idman.Biz reports that the organization will not impose sanctions on the player for the incident that occurred in the first leg of the Champions League play-off stage, in which the Portuguese team lost 1-0 to Madrid.
In the 82nd minute of the match, Valverde punched Benfica defender Samuel Dal, who fell to the ground. Referee François Letexier did not penalize the Uruguayan player.
Benfica filed a complaint with UEFA, believing that Valverde should have received a red card for the incident. However, according to Marca, the organization rejected the Portuguese team's complaint. Therefore, Valverde will not be punished for his actions in the match.
The Lisbon club remains dissatisfied with UEFA's decision.
"Benfica regrets the decision of UEFA not to take any disciplinary action despite the photos showing the aggression suffered by Benfica player Samuel Dal.
Undoubtedly, this situation was punishable by a red card and, as the red card was not shown during the game and the complaint was dismissed, no further sanctions will be applied," Benfica said in a statement.
