Greek police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Stavros Dimosthenous, the president of the Cypriot football club "Karmiotissa" and a businessman.
Idman.Biz reports that the information was spread by the Greek ERT-news TV channel.
The head of the club was shot in his car on the Limassol highway two weeks ago.
The two 28-year-old Greek citizens who were arrested are cousins. According to the police, one of them was the driver of the car involved in the crime, and the other was behind the wheel of the car in which the criminals fled. It was in that car that employees of the Organized Crime Unit in northern Greece discovered the fingerprints and genetic material of the two suspects.
It is believed that one of those arrested shot Dimosthenous, but the Cypriot authorities consider both of them to be the perpetrators of the murder. Employees of the Organized Crime Unit received information from their colleagues in Cyprus that two people suspected of Dimosthenous' murder were in Greece. They were detained in different houses in the western districts of Thessaloniki. Both people live permanently in Cyprus and are engaged in professional activities there. One of those arrested is originally from the city of Serres, and the other was born in Georgia and has relatives in Thessaloniki.
It is noted that the arrests were carried out on the basis of European warrants, and the prosecutor's office will begin the procedure for their extradition to Cyprus.
