Two footballers from the Azerbaijan national team will not participate in the matches against Iceland and Ukraine as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round due to passport issues.
Idman.biz reports, citing Teleqraf, that this was announced by the team's head coach, Fernando Santos, at a press conference held at the AFFA administrative building.
According to him, Mehdi Jannatov, the goalkeeper of "Sumgayit", and Vusal Iskandarli, the forward of the Albanian club "Partizani", have passport problems.
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan national team will face the Icelandic team on September 5 at 22:45 Baku time at the "Laugardalsvollur" stadium, and the Ukrainian team on September 9 at 20:00 at the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium, as part of Group D.
