US President Donald Trump met with the football players and coaches of Juventus in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington.
According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, the meeting took place before the first round of the FIFA Club World Cup against Al-Ain (5:0) in Washington.
During the meeting, Trump greeted Juventus head coach Igor Tudor and shook hands with Weston McKennie, a midfielder for the Turin team and the US national team.
"I have a great team from Italy behind me," Trump said.
During the reception, the US president tried to touch on the topic of transgender participation in sports with the Juventus players.
"Can a woman join your team, guys?" Trump asked.
Juventus players were embarrassed and unable to answer his question, after which Trump repeated it. Club CEO Damien Comolli tried to smooth over the difficult situation and avoid answering with tactics.
He replied, "We have a very strong women's team."
"They should play with women," Trump concluded.
In February of this year, Trump signed an executive order banning transgenders from participating in women's sports competitions at American universities. The US President intends to ask the International Olympic Committee to impose a complete ban on transgenders participating in women's competitions at the Olympic Games.
Juventus is ahead of Manchester City in Group H due to a better goal difference. On June 22, the Italian club will face Morocco's Viadad in Philadelphia. The match will start at 19:00 Baku time.
