The coach learned the news after his team's 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the 31st round of the English Premier League. The coach did not attend the post-match press conference due to family reasons; his assistant Bruno Saltor answered questions from the press on his behalf.
Tottenham offered condolences to the manager on social media and supported his family.
The London team is currently 17th in the English Premier League standings with 30 points.
