Toral Bayramov: “Ayxan Abbasov restored the team's belief”

Toral Bayramov, the footballer of our national team, answered journalists' questions yesterday after the match against Ukraine within the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.

- Our national team won its first point in the qualifying round. How would you comment on the draw (1:1) in the match against Ukraine?

- The situation we are in is known to everyone. We lost with a very bad score away. Nevertheless, we did not lose heart. There was a change of coach. In the last 3-4 days, everything happened that would hinder our football. We came to the field with the help of Aykhan muellim. No one was thinking about the score. Our goal was to fight for our flag, for our people. I think that in the match against Ukraine, we did not what we could, but even what we could not. We are capable. We can further improve our game and achieve even better results.

- Does it turn out that the problem was with the coach?

- I can't say anything about that. Every coach has his own system. It is my personal opinion that today I saw a fighting spirit in the children. We looked at each other and were motivated. That's what we need.

- What did Aykhan Abbasov bring to the national team?

- He restored the team's belief. We achieved a good result by fighting. Now we will look to the next matches.

- What can be expected from the match against France?

- By that time, there should be a head coach appointment. You know that Aykhan muellim was temporary in the national team. Whatever the requirements of the new head coach, we will fulfill them with all our heart.

- When our national team won a penalty, did you want to take the shot? Did you think for a moment that I should shoot, not Emin Mahmudov?

- Frankly, I would like to. But Emin also wanted to shoot. Because he would go down in history with a goal. There was such a problem once. We are Azerbaijanis, the main thing is that there is no problem and we achieve a good result.

- Emin Mahmudov surpassed Gurban Gurbanov with his 15th goal...

- This is football, this is the national team. Emin scored 15 goals, but that's not much. My goal is to surpass everyone in the number of goals myself (laughs).
