The head coach of the Bulgaria U-21 national team in football, Todor Yanchev, shared his thoughts with his country's media after the match against the Azerbaijan national team (0:0).
Idman.Biz reports that he did not hide his dissatisfaction with the draw result of the meeting held in Plovdiv.
The specialist stated that although his team was closer to victory, luck was not on their side:
"We absolutely had to win this game. Our performance was not at the level we wanted. We performed better after the substitution. Even though we were left with 10 players at the end, we still had chances."
Yanchev also touched on the game of the Azerbaijan national team and emphasized that the opponent was not a surprise for them:
"Azerbaijan did not surprise us with anything. We always play to win. We had opportunities until the end of the game, but we were not lucky."
He added that there were certain problems in the squad because three members of his team got sick before the game.
The Bulgarian coach also noted that despite the draw with Azerbaijan, he is optimistic about the future:
"Our chances remain. It is gratifying that although some players are promoted to the main national team, quality players come from below. I am comfortable, Bulgaria is on the right track with its youth."
