"We would very much like our national team to score points in the games against Iceland and France, and although second place in the tournament table does not seem realistic, to rise to third place."
These words were said by the former captain of the Azerbaijani national team, Tarlan Ahmadov.
The 53-year-old experienced specialist assessed the chances of our national team in the games against Iceland and France:
"We want our team to play football. We always say that we fought, but there is nothing in the name of football. We need to achieve results. My wish is that at least we beat Iceland. The players of our national team have difficulty getting into the squad in their clubs. If they can't do it, it will be difficult. This trend shows that no matter how much we expect successful results from the team, it will be in vain. Our legionnaire footballers, Mahir Emreli, cannot come to the national team, he has an injury. There are many problems, it's not worth talking about, we are regressing year after year," he said in an interview with sport24.az.
It should be noted that within the framework of the qualifying stage of the 2026 World Cup, our national team will face Iceland on November 13 at the 8th km settlement stadium, and France on November 16 at the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium.
