"We would very much like our national team to score points in the games against Iceland and France and rise to 3rd place, even though 2nd place in the tournament table does not seem realistic." These words were said by Tarlan Ahmadov in his statement to Sport24.az.
The 53-year-old experienced specialist assessed the chances of our national team in the games against Iceland and France:
"We want our team to play football. We always say we fought, but there is nothing in the name of football. It is necessary to achieve results. My wish is that we at least beat Iceland. The players of our national team have difficulty getting into the squad in their clubs. If they can't do it, it will be difficult. This trend shows that no matter how much we expect successful results from the national team, it will be in vain. Our legionnaire footballers, Mahir Emreli, cannot come to the national team, he is injured. There are many problems, it's not worth talking about, we are going backwards year by year."
It should be noted that our national team will face Iceland on November 13 at the 8th km settlement stadium and France on November 16 at the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium as part of the WC-2026 qualifying stage.
