Tahir Gozel, the president of "Qarabagh", dedicated the victory over "Benfica" in the main stage of the UEFA Champions League to President Ilham Aliyev.
"Report" informs that the club leader said this in his statement on the official website of the Aghdam representative.
He stated that this game, which went down in the history of Azerbaijani football as the first victory in the main stage of the Champions League, is dedicated to the head of state:
"We dedicate this victory to the conqueror of Karabakh, a historical figure, the great and genius leader of the people, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev".
It should be noted that although "Qarabagh" was 0:2 down in the match in Portugal, they scored three goals and won a tenacious victory – 3:2.
This was the first victory of Azerbaijani clubs in the main stages of the Champions League.
