"Qarabag" president Tahir Gozel dedicated the victory over "Benfica" in the main stage of the UEFA Champions League to President Ilham Aliyev. Sport24.az reports that the club leader said this in a statement on the official website of the Aghdam representative.
He stated that this game, which went down in the history of Azerbaijani football as the first victory in the main stage of the Champions League, is dedicated to the head of state:
"We dedicate this victory to the conqueror of Karabakh, a historical figure, the great and brilliant leader of the people, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Mr. Ilham Aliyev."
It should be noted that "Qarabag", although losing 0:2 in the match in Portugal, scored three goals and won a determined victory – 3:2. This was the first victory of Azerbaijani clubs in the main stages of the Champions League.
