The organizers of the Super League have proposed to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to change the format of the Champions League starting from 2027.
According to "Report," the "Mundo Deportivo" newspaper reported this.
Sources said that the changes will consist of the fact that in the general stage, 36 teams will be divided into two groups of 18 clubs, according to the UEFA ranking. Each team will play eight games. The top eight teams from the group will advance to the 1/8 finals. The top eight will face the top eight teams in the second group in the preliminary play-off stage.
Currently, 36 clubs participate in the Champions League stage. All teams will play eight games in the first stage - four at home and four away.
All clubs are combined in a consolidated table. The top eight automatically advance to the 1/8 finals, and the teams from 9th to 24th place will play for the remaining participants in the play-offs. The Champions League has been held in this format since last season.
