Legendary Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard has harshly criticized his former team and some players after their 0-2 defeat to PSG in the Champions League quarter-final.
Idman.Biz reports, citing "TNT Sports", that Gerrard stated the Merseysiders were completely overwhelmed at the Parc des Princes and appeared "toothless" in attack. He blamed goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for the first goal scored by Desire Doue.
"Maybe Mamardashvili should have stood a meter further back, there was no reason for him to come out that far. It may seem like a bit of a ruthless criticism, but if he had been a little further back, maybe he could have tipped that ball over the bar. No tactical plan worked for Liverpool in attack tonight, they were completely helpless," Gerrard emphasized.
Gerrard added that the 2-0 scoreline is a chance for Liverpool given the course of the match, as PSG could have scored more goals. However, he also did not hide that a comeback at Anfield next week would be very difficult.
