"There have always been strong, technical, and well-prepared football players in Azerbaijan".
These words were said by Stanislav Cherchesov, the former head coach of the Russian national team.
The specialist, who currently coaches his country's "Akhmat" team, said that progress has been felt in the national team after Aykhan Abbasov's arrival: "Before, there were shortcomings in organizing the game and focusing on the result. With the arrival of Aykhan Abbasov, stability in the team has increased, and discipline has been created. The players understand what the coach wants from them. Game discipline is visible in the national team. The players try to do what the coach says on the field. But it is clear that sometimes it is difficult to compete with rivals at the level of France. I wish the Azerbaijan national team success in the next matches. I hope that the team will achieve better results," the coach said in a statement to AZERTAC.
The 62-year-old coach, who once said that his name was associated with the Azerbaijan national team, said that they had not held an official meeting with AFFA regarding this.
It should be noted that the team led by Aykhan Abbasov finished the D group of the qualifying round of the World Championship (WC-2026) in the last - 4th place with 1 point.
