The Spanish Referees Committee (CTA) has upheld the decision of referee Jose Munuer Montero to send off Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde in the La Liga match against Atletico Madrid (3-2) in the 29th round.
Idman.Biz reports that the Uruguayan footballer received a straight red card in the 77th minute for kicking attacker Alex Baena from behind.
"The referee sanctioned him with a straight red card for this action, describing it as kicking an opponent with excessive force when he was not in a position to play the ball.
After reviewing the footage from various angles and at different playback speeds, the referees in the VAR room confirmed that the point of contact, the nature of the action, and the force were consistent with serious foul play. They decided not to intervene, considering there was no obvious error in the decision made on the field. From the CTA's point of view, the decisions made both on the field and in the VAR room were correct," Marca quotes the committee.
