The influential "Sky Sports" conducted a survey to determine the best player in football history.
Idman.biz reports that approximately half a million respondents participated in the vote.
The first place in the survey was taken by Cristiano Ronaldo, the forward of the Portuguese national team and Saudi Arabia's "Al-Nassr" club. He won 36 percent of the votes.
Lionel Messi (35%), the star of the US club "Inter Miami" and the Argentine national team, came in second place, trailing him by a small margin.
His compatriot, the legendary Diego Maradona, took third place. The first "four" was completed by Brazilian Pele.
