Siyasat Asgarov, the head coach of "Neftchi" women's football team, made a statement to the club's official website after the UEFA Champions League I qualifying round game with "ABB Fomget" (Turkey). Sport24.az reports that the specialist commented on the match that ended with a score of 0:2 as follows:
"I knew the opponent well. Because I had worked at the "ABB Fomget" club before. However, almost half of the team had been updated, and the squad had strengthened significantly. Many of the new players were members of national teams who play top-level women's football. Moreover, it was unclear what surprises we would face because the opponent had not played any games during this preparation period. Nevertheless, we also chose a game plan according to the opponent's strength and prepared as much as possible. We wanted to punish the opponent without conceding a goal.
In my opinion, our team showed character and fought to the end. But unfortunately, at certain times, the opponent's quality came to the fore and forced us to make mistakes. After these mistakes, we conceded goals. Although we also had chances. I think that the main reason for not being able to take advantage of the opportunities is the large number of young players in the squad. Nevertheless, if we look at the overall picture, I think our team can show better results in the future."
