The main shortcoming of the Azerbaijani women's national football team in the match against Malaysia was the failure to capitalize on goal opportunities. Sport24.az reports that the head coach of the team, Siyasat Asgarov, made a statement to the AFFA press service regarding this.
The specialist shared his thoughts on the match in which they defeated the opponent with two unanswered goals at the "FIFA Tri Nations Women's Football Series 2025" tournament held in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh:
"The Malaysian national team had won against the Bangladesh team. If they had defeated us as well, they would have been the winners of the tournament. For this reason, they prepared for the match with high motivation. We also analyzed several previous matches of the opponent. We knew their strengths and weaknesses, and their game plans were the same. Two different halves passed. We scored beautiful goals in the first half. We worked on both goals during training. We could have scored again before the break. In the second half, we also had 100% goal opportunities. We gave young players a chance to show themselves. I think our main shortcoming was our failure to capitalize on goal opportunities. This could create difficulties for us in the qualifying stage matches. We will try to prepare better for the match against the Bangladesh team."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team will play its last game of the tournament against the Bangladesh team on December 2.
