As always, our national team is facing a difficult game. It is difficult to predict the match because we do not know how ready our team is." These words were said by Shahin Diniyev in his statement to Sport24.az.
The former head coach of the national team shared his thoughts on the D-2026 qualifying match against Iceland on the road today:
"We will play against a team that is athletic and has high functional fitness. After this game, we will see what form our players are in after the limit is lifted. Many of them lack game practice, that's clear. Game practice is very important for a high level of functional fitness. The fact that some players lack it worries us. I wish the national team success. I think they will put up a decent fight. The opponent is a fast team that makes better use of standard situations. They have tall players, they will try to keep our defenders under constant pressure. They will try to score an early goal and keep the game calm. The opponent's strength is known, many Icelandic players play in good teams abroad. We have a match against a quality team ahead of us."
It should be noted that today's Iceland - Azerbaijan match will start at 22:45.
