Senegal has been handed a technical defeat, and Morocco has been declared the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Sport24.az reports that the press service of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released this information.
CAF upheld Morocco's appeal regarding the game's outcome due to Senegalese players leaving the field:
"The CAF Appeals Committee, in accordance with Article 84 of the Africa Cup of Nations rules, has decided that Senegal will not be fined in the final match of the tournament and that Morocco will be awarded a 3-0 victory."
It should be noted that the Africa Cup of Nations final between Senegal and Morocco took place on January 18, 2026, at the stadium in Rabat. At the end of regular time, the Senegalese players left the field in protest of a penalty awarded against them. After a break of approximately 15 minutes, they returned, and Eduard Mendy saved Brahim Diaz's penalty. In extra time, Pape Gueye secured the victory for the Senegalese.
