Borussia Dortmund has announced on its official website that it has terminated the contract of Sebastian Kehl, who served as the club's sporting director.
Idman.Biz reports that during Kehl's leadership, Borussia Dortmund consistently qualified for the UEFA Champions League and reached the final of the tournament in 2024.
"After honest discussions, Sebastian Kehl, Carsten Kramer, and I agreed that summer is the most suitable time for a change. In order to give both sides time to prepare, we mutually agreed to terminate Sebastian's contract with immediate effect. Sebastian and I also have a long history. We not only played together at Borussia Dortmund, but also won the German championship together in 2002. Sebastian has made a great contribution to our club and we are very grateful for his loyalty," the club's press service quoted CEO Lars Ricken as saying.
Since 2018, Kehl has headed the professional players department at Borussia Dortmund for four years, during which time the club won the German Cup in 2021. In the summer of 2022, the former Borussia player began to serve as sporting director.
Borussia is currently second in the Bundesliga standings.
