Several candidates were considered for the head coach position of the Azerbaijan U-20 national team.
Idman.Biz reports that this was stated by Sarkhan Hajiyev, AFFA's Executive Vice President, at a press conference.
The national association official explained the main reason for Rui Jorge's selection:
"His results with the Portuguese U-21 national team and his experience as a football player were the main factors in this choice. The task currently set for the head coach is for the team to succeed in the group stage, compete with opponents, and show fighting spirit on the field. The team's main goal is currently only related to the World Championship."
He emphasized that some work is being done regarding which country will host the opening and final matches of the World Championship:
"We are in close contact with FIFA. Contacts have also been established with government agencies. Legal documents are currently being worked on. Baku will unequivocally be one of the cities to host the World Cup. We cannot say anything definite about other cities yet."
It should be reminded that the U-20 national team will participate in the FIFA U-20 World Championship, which will be held in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in 2027.
