Footballer Sardar Azmoun has been removed from the Iranian national team.
Idman.Biz reports that the player of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) club "Shabab Al-Ahli" is facing threats of confiscation of property.
The footballer's social media posts were perceived as support for UAE leader Mohammed bin Zayed, even though Azmoun did this as a player for the Emirates' "Shabab Al-Ahli" club. Azmoun published photos with Mohammed bin Zayed.
Iran considers the UAE an ally of its enemies in its war against Israel and the United States.
According to the Iranian "Fars" news agency, Azmoun is being called a "traitor" in the country and is threatened with property confiscation.
