RMC Sport reports that if the Iranian national team unilaterally withdraws from the 2026 World Cup, the national team will face serious sanctions from the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA).
Idman.Biz reports that Iranian national teams may be excluded from all future FIFA competitions. They could also face a minimum fine of €275,000, which could reach €555,000. The amount depends on the date the team withdraws from the tournament. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee may impose sporting sanctions on the Iranian team, including point deductions.
It was previously reported that the Iranian national team may withdraw from the World Cup due to the aggressive policies of the United States against the Middle Eastern country. US President Donald Trump has also commented on the issue.
The Iranian national team has qualified for the 2026 World Cup and has been drawn into Group G, where they will face Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand. All three of the team's matches are to be played in the United States.
