An interview with "Turan Tovuz" goalkeeper Sergey Samok to Sport24.az
- You won an important victory in the 23rd round of the Azerbaijan Premier League. How would you comment on the match against "Neftchi" (1:0)?
- It was a difficult game. There weren't many scoring opportunities. Neither us nor the opponent had many. In the first half, Neftchi's wing crosses were dangerous. But our defenders coped with it. After the break, we were more active and scored the winning goal. I think we won an important 3 points.
- You probably knew before the game that "Zira" lost points in the match against "Kapaz". Did this moment further increase your motivation?
- To be honest, I didn't know this before the game. I only heard that Zira lost points after our match with Neftchi ended. This surprised me in a good way. But it is impossible to say anything now. Because there are still 10 rounds ahead. Therefore, we must try to win every match.
- Can we say that "Turan Tovuz" took an important step towards the bronze medal thanks to this victory?
- Of course. But "Neftchi" is also a good team. Despite the difference in points between us, they had a mathematical chance to overtake us. Therefore, this victory is important for us. But again, I say that you should not relax in any way. There is approximately 1 round ahead.
- You haven't conceded a goal in 8 consecutive games. What is the main reason for this successful streak?
- Of course, not conceding a goal in 8 games is a very good result. It's nice for me too. But this is not only my work. If we don't concede a goal, the whole team plays a role in it. So, our defenders are doing their job.
- Kurban Berdyev speaks little at press conferences. More precisely, he gives concrete and laconic answers to questions. I wonder if he performs in the same style in the dressing room after such important victories?
- It's different every time. He was also emotional after the match with "Neftchi". Because we won an important victory. Everyone was happy with this result. Of course, Kurban Berdyev too. True, he doesn't talk much even after victories. In general, whether before or after the game, or in training, even if Berdyev speaks briefly, he always finds the words needed for victory. He motivates us well, conveys his instructions. And we try to implement what he says on the field.
