The Russian Football Union (RFU) wants to organize an alternative tournament to the World Cup in the summer of 2026. According to Sport24.az, the "365Scores" portal reported this.
According to the source, the RFU wants to invite teams that failed to qualify for the World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico next summer, to Moscow.
Potential participants include Serbia, Greece, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Nigeria, Cameroon, China, and Russia. The RFU's goal is to put pressure on FIFA to lift the sanctions imposed against the country and participate in the qualifying round of the 2030 World Cup.
It should be noted that Russian teams have been excluded from tournaments held under the FIFA and UEFA flags for political reasons since 2022.
