Benfica president Rui Costa will face court for allegedly transferring approximately 76,000 euros from Russian club Lokomotiv to the Lisbon club's bank accounts. Sport24.az reports that this was reported by CNN Portugal.
The matter concerns the partial payment of a debt related to the transfer of defender Herman Conti. This transaction is suspected of violating European legislation related to sanctions against Russia. Rui Costa was actually expected to be questioned in July, but at the time, the court postponed the hearing at his request.
The transaction was detected by the bank, after which the prosecutor's office ordered the transaction to be stopped. By order of the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Cases (DCIAP), the funds were returned to the sender - the account of the sports joint-stock company that owns Lokomotiv.
It should be noted that Conti moved from the Portuguese club to Lokomotiv in January 2023 for 250,000 euros. In 2024, the defender left the Moscow club.
