Benfica president Rui Costa has responded to allegations of racism surrounding young winger Gianluca Prestianni, who was temporarily sanctioned by UEFA. The club leader emphasized that he is fully aware of the footballer's character and trusts him.
Idman.Biz reports that Rui Costa rejected the accusations leveled against the Argentinian player.
He said in a statement:
"They call Prestianni a racist, but he can be anything but a racist. I can guarantee that."
The president admitted that it was difficult to speak definitively about what happened on the field, but noted that the club's internal trust is unshakable:
"I can't know exactly what was said or not said there. But we believe Prestianni's word. More importantly, we know the identity and character of the players in our house well."
It should be reminded that Gianluca Prestianni had to miss the return match against Real Madrid after being accused of insulting Vinicius Junior. UEFA is currently continuing its investigation into the matter.
