An interview with Rufat Abbasov, a football player of "Shamakhi" and the Azerbaijani national team, to Sport24.az
- How do you assess the performance of "Shamakhi" in the first half of the season?
- We performed well in the first half of the season. I consider this period normal for our team. We are currently in 7th place. I don't think it's a bad result.
- Do you think you could have scored more points?
- Of course. I think so too. We conceded goals in our goal in the last moments of some matches. There were also matches where we lost points and points. But despite this, we will try our best in the second half of the season. We intend to score more points.
- Looking at the results of the first half of the season and the game you showed, do you think the team could have claimed to play in the European Cups?
- When the season started, our main goal was to stay in the league. Despite this, we wanted to be in the higher ranks as much as we could. If we get a little closer to the Eurocup zone, why not?
- You have been on the field in all matches of the Azerbaijani championship in the first half of the season. What do you think you owe this stability to?
- Yes. First of all, I thank the coaching staff for this. I try my best to show myself in a good way in training. I don't intend to lose this form. I always want to play in the first "11".
- Have you had offers from other clubs during the winter break? Is the possibility of changing the team real?
- No. I haven't received an offer. I currently have a contract with "Shamakhi". Now all my thoughts are on my team.
- What will be the goals of "Shamakhi" in the second half of the season?
- I emphasized it before. First of all, we wanted to stay in the championship. Now we plan to score points and move up to the higher ranks.
- You are also a member of the Azerbaijani national team. The national team finished last year without a win. What results should fans expect from the team in 2026?
- We intend to win in the new year. We will hold friendly matches in March. Then there will be the League of Nations. We want to make our fans happy with victories.
