Former President of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, spoke about Lamin Yamal, the young forward of "Barcelona" and the Spanish national team.
Idman.Biz reports that Rubiales stated that Yamal's connection with the national team was established years ago and that the federation took serious steps in this direction.
"When Lamin Yamal was 12 years old, the youth department approached me and told me that there was such a football player. The youth were completely confident in his potential. I also said, prepare a plan for him, talk to his parents, create closeness and instill in him the desire to wear the Spanish uniform," said Rubiales.
He added that federation representatives made four to five trips to monitor Yamal's development.
"Yamal was initially interested in playing for the Spanish national team. This was a job that no one saw, but it was very important. It is precisely these efforts that are the main reason why he is in the national team today," said the former president.
