Former Sporting and Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim may return to the Portuguese league. Sport24.az, citing talkSPORT, reports that the specialist is being considered as the main candidate to coach Benfica.
According to the source, the future of Benfica's current head coach, Jose Mourinho, remains uncertain. His contract has a clause to leave the club in the summer. If Mourinho is offered to lead the Portuguese national team after the possible departure of Roberto Martinez, Amorim could replace him.
Amorim is a Benfica academy graduate. He wore the team's jersey twice during his football career. The first time from 1994 to 1998 and between 2008 and 2017. As a coach, Amorim worked at Casa Pia, Braga, and Sporting, which he left in October 2024.
It should be noted that Benfica is currently third in the Portuguese championship and 25th in the Champions League.
