There are hardly any quiet days at Manchester United. A personal scandal involving the club's former player and interim head coach, Michael Carrick, from years ago has been brought up again.
Idman.Biz reports that Carrick met his wife, Lisa Roughhead, as a teenager in Newcastle. The couple married in 2007 and have a daughter named Louise and a son named Jacey, who currently plays in the Manchester United academy. Lisa Roughhead is a Pilates instructor and is also involved in the activities of Carrick's charitable foundation.
The root of the tension dates back to 2014. At that time, Roy Keane (former Manchester United player) called Carrick's interview after the Champions League game against Olympiacos "soulless." Reacting to these comments, Lisa Roughhead used harsh language against Keane on social media, later deleting the post and apologizing, saying she had gotten carried away by her emotions.
The situation became relevant again in January 2026. After Ruben Amorim's departure, Carrick was appointed interim head coach of Manchester United until the end of the season. He had previously performed the same role in 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure.
Speaking on the "Stick to Football" podcast, Roy Keane returned to the old topic, expressing sarcastic opinions and alluding to Carrick's wife.
Carrick, in a press conference, stated that these words did not bother him:
"These things are not important to me. There is enough opinion and noise around this job."
This event is seen as a clash between Roy Keane's harsh style and a personal past resurfacing. Carrick, on the other hand, is focused on creating stability at Manchester United until the end of the season and preparing the team for difficult games.
