Netherlands national team coach Ronald Koeman shared his thoughts on the refereeing decisions in the Champions League matches. According to Sport24.az, the experienced specialist, commenting on the controversial episodes in the tournament, focused on the responsibility of the players rather than the referees.
Koeman stated that in a similar situation, he would criticize Eduardo Camavinga before the referee:
"If I were the coach, I would be more angry with the player. I would also criticize the referee, but the player should not lose or keep the ball in such a risky situation. This means leaving the decision to the referee and risking fate.".
He also did not consider it right for "Barcelona" to put all the responsibility for the failure on the referees:
"I think it's a bit of an exaggeration to blame only the referee in these games. The team should also look at their own mistakes.".
Koeman also defended his protégé Frenkie de Jong, who has recently been the target of criticism:
"Frenkie has a big impact on the team when he's on the field. I don't understand why he is so criticized. He is still a high-level player.".
