Uruguayan national team and "Barcelona" defender Ronald Araujo has clarified his harsh tackle against Phil Foden in the friendly match against England (1:1). In the match held on March 27, 2026, at "Wembley2" stadium, Foden had to leave the field in the 56th minute due to an injury he received.
Idman.Biz reports that Araujo said that he met with Foden after the game and there were no resentments between them.
"I spoke to him, he said everything was fine. These are things that happen in football, things that can happen on the field. I never wanted to do anything bad, I was going for the ball - he knows that too. I was glad he didn't have a serious problem," Araujo said.
Although Araujo continued the game without receiving a red card for this tackle, England national team coach Thomas Tuchel and many experts strongly criticized the referee's decision. Tuchel emphasized that Foden was "very lucky" and that it was incomprehensible that the VAR system did not check this episode.
It should be noted that Foden will undergo a medical examination after returning to Manchester City, but according to Araujo, the injury is not as scary as it seemed at first glance.
