Barcelona's Polish striker Robert Lewandowski has revealed what surprised him the most after moving to Spain in 2022. Sport24.az reports that he spoke about this in an interview with the "Rymanowski Live" YouTube channel:
"Here, Catalans are called Poles (Polaco is a nickname in Spain referring to Catalans or their language - ed.). I always say that I am both Polish and a Pole from Barcelona. It's funny that when I came here, I didn't even understand how important the Catalan language is for Catalans in Barcelona. I expected something like the Bavarian or Silesian language in Munich or Poland. These languages exist, but they are gradually being forgotten. But in Barcelona, Catalan is a mandatory subject in all state and private schools".
