The Portuguese referee Juan Pedro da Silva Pinheiro, who has been appointed for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League play-off stage between "Qarabag" and "Ferencváros" in Hungary, has previously officiated a match of an Azerbaijani team.
According to "Report", the 37-year-old referee was in charge of a "Neftchi" match in 2021.
The FIFA referee was the head referee in the return match of the II qualifying round of the Champions League, in which "Neftchi" lost to "Olympiacos" (0:1) in Greece. Pinheiro showed a red card to Madi Kamara from the home team, and to Mert Çelik from "Neftchi".
The referee, who has been appointed to international games since 2016, also officiated the UEFA Super Cup match between France's PSG and England's "Tottenham" on August 13. Azerbaijani FIFA referee Elchin Masiyev was the fourth referee in that match.
It should be noted that the "Ferencváros" - "Qarabag" game will start on August 19 at 23:00 Baku time. The return match will start on August 27 at 20:45 at the Tofig Bahramov Republican Stadium.
