Sander van der Eyk, the head referee who will officiate the Iceland - Azerbaijan match in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, has been assigned to UEFA tournaments since 2022.
According to "Report", the 31-year-old referee has not worked in matches of Azerbaijani teams so far.
The FIFA referee will officiate a qualifying match between major national teams for the second time in his career. He was first appointed to the Slovakia - Liechtenstein (3:0) match in 2023 for a ticket to EURO-2024.
During his career, the Dutch referee has participated in the qualifying stages of the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.
It should be noted that the Iceland - Azerbaijan match will start at 22:45 Baku time at the "Laugardalsvöllur" stadium in Reykjavik.
