Real Madrid has reached the Champions League Round of 16 for the 29th consecutive time.
According to Lent.az, on February 25, the "Royal Club" defeated Benfica of Lisbon in the Champions League play-off second leg. The last time Real failed to reach the Round of 16 was in the 1996/97 season when they participated in the UEFA Cup. Since then, the Madrid team has participated in the Champions League group stage every year and invariably advanced to the stage where 16 teams remain in the tournament.
No club in the history of the tournament has reached the Round of 16 29 times in a row.
It is worth mentioning that the match between Real and Benfica, which took place at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid, ended with a score of 2:1. The Lisbon club opened the scoring in the 14th minute with Rafael Silva. Real equalized two minutes later with Aurelien Tchouameni. Vinicius Junior scored the winning goal for the Madrid team in the 8th minute. Federico Valverde provided the assist for both of Real's goals.
Arda Guler scored for Real in the 32nd minute, but his goal was disallowed.
