Rauf Aliyev: "1 point in the match against Iceland is a good result for Azerbaijan"

1 point can be considered a good result for the Azerbaijani national team, which will face Iceland today in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.

This was stated by the former striker of the national team Rauf Aliyev in an interview with "Report".

He emphasized that Iceland is a good team:

"A difficult test awaits the team in Iceland. The opponent performs well at the national level. Moreover, each of their players plays in high-quality clubs. They are very good at distinguishing themselves from standard situations. I think that 1 point gained on the road can be considered a good result for the Azerbaijani national team."

The former striker said that the results of the national team are not encouraging:

"In a few days we will play at home with Ukraine. The national team's performances in recent times, the failure to achieve successful results after the arrival of Fernandu Santush, do not give hope. Therefore, it is difficult to say a positive opinion about the upcoming matches. I hope they will prove us wrong."

R. Aliyev does not think that there will be fatigue in the team:

"The team may be in good physical condition. Because both championships have started and they have been preparing. Since the season has just started, there can be no fatigue."
