"It was a very difficult 10 days." Sport24.az reports that these words were written by the coach of the Azerbaijani national team, Rashad Eyyubov, on his social network account.
The specialist also shared his thoughts on the national team's draw with Ukraine in Baku (1:1) in the D-2026 qualifying round match:
"First of all, I would like to express my great gratitude to Fernando Santos. The support he showed me during this period and the experience I gained from the European champion are invaluable. Unfortunately, there is no ready-made recipe for success. I would also like to thank our players. I must especially note the character they showed. Despite all the criticism and pressure, the players were able to find strength and change the situation."
Eyyubov also touched upon captain Emin Mahmudov becoming the top scorer in the history of the national team:
"I also convey my congratulations to my friend, our captain, on this record. You deserved it, but we are already waiting for the 16th goal. At the same time, I wish Aykhan Abbasov success. He was able to do a lot of work in just two days."
