The Portuguese national team's forward, Rafael Leao, will not participate in the match against Hungary as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Sport24.az reports that the local federation's press service has released this information.
The 26-year-old footballer has not yet fully recovered from a calf injury sustained in August during a match with Milan in the Italian Cup. National team head coach Roberto Martinez was dissatisfied with Leao's preparation in the match against the Republic of Ireland, where the forward was on the field for 29 minutes.
Leao underwent additional examinations, and the national team's medical staff excluded him from the squad for the match against Hungary. The footballer has been allowed to return to his club's camp to recover from his injury.
It should be noted that the Portugal vs. Hungary match will take place tomorrow.
