Australian national team footballer Mary Fowler has revealed the severe racist experience she had at French representative Montpellier. She stated that when she left the club, she and another black teammate were given bananas instead of flowers.
Idman.Biz reports that Fowler wrote that this was not a "simple mistake", but rather just one episode of the coldness and special treatment they felt within the club.
The footballer says that this incident made it even more difficult for them to see themselves as part of the team.
The 22-year-old striker currently plays for English representative Manchester City. Fowler emphasized that she felt obligated to make this issue public in order to support those who have had similar experiences.
It should be noted that this gesture has been known as a racist insult in football for many years, and Mary Fowler's experience is not unique. There are many famous examples in history:
Dani Alves – "Villarreal" (2014)
While taking a corner kick, a fan threw a banana at him. Alves picked up the banana and ate it on the spot, turning it into a symbolic gesture against racism.

Samuel Eto"o – "Barcelona"
Throughout his career, Eto"o was subjected to both insults and banana throwing at several stadiums. He even tried to leave the field once.

Roberto Carlos – "Anzhi" (2011)
He was thrown bananas twice in the Russian Premier League, which caused a great resonance all over the world.

Mario Balotelli – Italian national team
Balotelli has repeatedly faced banana throwing and racist chants. He often made harsh statements about it.
