Athletic Bilbao continues its fight to bring back Aymeric Laporte, whose transfer from Al-Nassr was blocked by FIFA due to documentation issues.
According to Idman.biz, the club is awaiting a decision from the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber this week and intends to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if rejected.
The parties had previously agreed on a 3-year contract and a transfer fee of 10 million euros. However, the deal fell through due to delays in the documents by the Saudi Federation, and now the defender officially remains an Al-Nassr player for another year. In La Liga, he cannot be registered until at least the winter transfer window.
Besiktas has also joined the fight for the player. The Turkish club has already agreed on loan terms with Laporte and has approached Al-Nassr, which is open to negotiations, with an offer. Thus, the future of the Spanish defender will depend on the decision of FIFA and the consideration of the case in CAS.
Recall that Athletic is Qarabag's opponent in the Champions League group stage. The clubs will face each other in Bilbao on October 22.
