"During penalty kicks, I usually choose one corner of the goal and jump in that direction. Before the match against 'Napoli', I analyzed two players. However, Rasmus Höylund was not among them. Therefore, I had to think of something spontaneously."
These words were spoken by "Qarabag" goalkeeper Mateusz Kołalski while talking about saving a penalty kick in the fifth round match against "Napoli" in Italy, which they lost 0:2 in the main stage of the UEFA Champions League.
The Polish goalkeeper stated that despite his brilliant performance in Naples, he was disappointed with the defeat.
"I couldn't sleep after the match because we immediately returned to Baku. We still have 3 games ahead of us. I think we are capable of qualifying for the play-offs," he said in a statement to AZERTAC.
The 25-year-old player said that "Qarabag" is a national pride for the Azerbaijani people: "The current squad is mainly assembled for the Champions League. But we also perform well in the local league as always. At the beginning of the season, no one would have imagined that we could achieve such results in the Champions League."
It should be noted that Mateusz Kołalski has appeared in 15 matches for "Qarabag" this season and conceded 18 goals. The goalkeeper kept his goal untouched in 5 of these matches. M.Kołalski has a contract with the Agdam club until the summer of 2027.
